FUN JUMP

October 29, 2020

Prospect Valley Fun Jump - October 29, 2020

What is the Fun Jump?
Typically, the PV Fun Run is our largest PTA fundraising event of the year, but due to health and safety restrictions this year, we’ll be having a FUN JUMP instead! This socially distanced-friendly fundraiser will be a super fun way for the kids to help raise money for our school. Every kid is a part of the FUN, and 100% of the profits go to support our school and our PTA! The Fun Jump will be held on Thursday, October 29th (bad weather make-up day will be October 30th).
How does it work?
  • This year’s fundraiser challenge has been simplified and the kids will be collecting flat donations for completing a timed challenge. Students will collect digital pledges from family, neighbors and friends as a flat donation (i.e. $30) before the event and up until Nov 5th.
  • Each student will have an online fundraising page. Since this is not a product-selling fundraiser, students can collect pledges from family and friends near and far. More info on the digital pledge format will be coming soon. We will be using an online platform called Member Hub for pledge collection.
  • On Thursday, Oct. 29th, during their Art, Music or PE class, each student (in-person and remote) will use their new PV jump rope to participate in the event.
  • Kids will have 10 minutes to jump rope (taking breaks as needed) or keep their bodies moving the entire 10 minutes. As long as they are moving, it counts!  The Specials teachers will help the kids (both in person and remote) to complete this challenge while having fun!
  • After the Jump, students will have one extra week to finalize and collect any additional digital pledges.  All donations must be completed by November 5th, in order to count toward prize winnings.
My children are remote learners, how can they participate?
  • Your students will receive their jump rope in the October 14th packet pick-up from school. You can adjust the length of their jump rope if needed, and start practicing!
  • On Thursday, October 29th, Art, Music or PE class teachers will lead remote students through the 10 minute challenge, synchronously. We are hoping to have this on a live stream for remote and in person learners to jump together! More info on this TBD (p.s. If this type of thing is in your wheelhouse, please get in touch with the Fun Jump committee).
  • Once all pledges have been collected and tallied, we will distribute prizes during another packet pick-up at PV.
What are these prizes you keep referring to?
  • First, all students will receive a Prospect Valley jump rope for participating. But that’s just the beginning...
  • The more donations a student brings in, the more prizes they will win. For reaching donation levels of $50, $150, $300 and $500, students will win some really fun prizes. And- all prizes are cumulative this year! That means that a student who collects $500 will receive every prize up to that fundraising level: they will get the $50 level prize, the $150 level prize, and $300 level prize-as well as the $500 level prize. Prizes will be announced soon- stay tuned!
  • Once all digital pledges are accounted for on November 5th, PTA will order prizes. Prizes will be delivered/distributed from school once all prizes have arrived.
How does the money we collect get spent?
  • This year, more than ever, our school is in need of technology funding. Prospect Valley has not been a 1-to-1 device school in the past, so we used to share devices within school. In order for students to have their own devices this year, we have had to borrow Chromebooks from other district schools, many of which will soon be expiring and in need of replacement. The PTA would LOVE to raise enough money to help our school meet this funding challenge.
  • The PTA also supports important classroom initiatives and educational tools (things like Dreambox software and our new reading assessment kits), safety upgrades, necessary PPE for staff and classrooms, and funding ALL of the PTA-sponsored school events that help our amazing PV community thrive.
  • Our goal is to fully-fund our PTA for the year, so that we would not need to ask our wonderful families to do more fundraising this year!
Do I get a say in how the money raised is spent?
Absolutely- we’d love to hear your voice! All PTA members get a vote on funds requests from the school and PTA committees. Fund requests are presented at our monthly PTA meetings- this year our PTA meetings are being held on Zoom, and we’ll be voting on requests via email polls. If you’re not already a member of the Prospect Valley PTA, you can join by filling out this form and paying your $15 dues here.
Does my child have to participate in the Fun Jump?
Your child does not have to collect pledges, but they will be expected to participate in the jump rope challenge in the same way that they are expected to participate in PE. All students will still receive a jump rope to keep even if they are not fundraising.
What if someone doesn’t want to make a pledge online or doesn’t know how to use the website?
We suggest having them pay you by cash or check, and then you can make the donation online in their name. Since parent volunteers are not allowed at school this year, we are trying to simplify the collection/tallying of pledges as much as possible.
Can I help with the Fun Jump?
We would love your help! Are you able to help with Graphic Design, Video/Live Feed or getting the word out?  We would love to have you!! Send us an email at pvfunjump@gmail.com
Any more questions? Same email!  Our team of parent volunteers will help you anyway we can.
Thank you,
Laura Clase, Rachelle Dodge, Alia Nicholson and Leslie Weinstein
