room parents
Room Parents have a special role in their child’s classroom! Room Parents communicate with classroom families to answer questions, share information, build community, and promote PV/PTA events and opportunities for parent involvement. Room Parents plan and organize three classroom parties per year (Halloween, Winter Holiday, and Valentine’s Day) in collaboration with the teacher and coordinate an end-of-year teacher gift with classroom families. Room Parents also engage classroom parents to assist with teacher appreciation week.

Details for Room Parents:
- Decor:
- Tablecloths for tables.
- A festive decorated food table.
- Themed decorations throughout the classroom.
- No balloons
- No gifts/goody bags
- Pinterest is great for party inspiration!
- Holiday Party
- The winter holiday party includes a theme to include all religions and beliefs. For example, if the craft is an ornament, it can also be hung on a door or a mantle.
- What should a party include:
- All parties should consist of a craft, game(s) (a lot of the older classes prefer music and dancing), and snacks. You will be in charge of instructing the students with the directions of the crafts and game(s).
- Volunteers (Snack, Decor, Classroom Assistance)
- Sign-up Genius is the best tool for volunteers. Please allow at least two weeks' notice to sign up & set reminders.
- The parties are not the Room Parents financial responsibility. It is your responsibility to ask for volunteers, decor and food/drink donations, or monetary assistance to cover the costs of the party.
- Food & Drink
- Because we are a healthy school, please limit sweet treats to one item during the party.
- Soda is not allowed.
- We are allowed to bring home-baked items; however, an ingredient list must be provided for those with allergies.
- Teacher Communication
- Please meet with your child's teacher to discuss how you can be of assistance to them throughout the year.
- Parties: Determine preferences on setup times and if there are any child food allergies. Setting up the evening before is usually the best option.
- Determine how to communicate with parents about volunteering, teacher gifts, and teacher appreciation week.
- Your teacher may ask for assistance in coordinating other items as well. Please do so at your discretion.
- Please meet with your child's teacher to discuss how you can be of assistance to them throughout the year.
- PTA Assistance
- Please reach out to [email protected] with questions or concerns. The room parent coordinator will be your best resource and is available to answer questions and assist you.
- Make sure to contact the PTA if you are having issues getting assistance within your classroom.
